To cut down on costs, I would try on sizes in-store and look for the best deals on authentic NF jacket from reputable sellers on Ebay. The versatility and it being waterproof has been so great for me.

Hi Kim, thank you for reaching out! The BGSD Down Puffer Coat featured is mid-thigh or knee-length (depending on your height). The Eddie Bauer Lodge Down Coat featured here is also longer in length: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-down-jacket/ I would highly recommend that you join TFG’s free facebook community and post your question there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls/ It is a fabulous group of helpful female travelers that have the best suggestions to share. Hope this helps! ?

Deborah,
That’s really sad that you lost the shell!
If you can’t get it replaced, I’d recommend the LLBean Goretex Stowaway as a replacement. While they
have fewer color choices now, they always have black ( what I have). These are great and dependable coats with never a “ leak through”, and phenomenal wind and cold breaking ability. All seams are sealed, and flaps cover every zipper. Also has a large ( but adjustable) hood! Elastic and wrap bands at the wrist, and elastic cords at bottom. Very lightweight and completely stormproof! Fabulous for monsoon season anywhere…and packs up very small with no wrinkles! Best rain jacket I’ve ever owned, bar none. It’s also worked well at keeping me warm when departing in midwinter. I just add a nano-puff vest over two layers of smartwool, and this jacket on top. I never leave without it!

I’ve tried a lot of jackets and coats over the years, but my “ best by far” and multi-use item is the Bean Gore-Tex jacket! Given the appropriate “underlayers”, this jacket has even gone to Antartica and kept me warm and dry.
Sometimes I use an “ omni-heat” shirt, but more often two layers ( one short sleeve or shell, and a mid layer smartwool shirt underneath. I add a Patagonia “puff” vest in dark blue….and am dry and warm anywhere. Plus you can peel down to the T-shirt alone if you are heading for warmer locations. All these items pack easily ( and small),
and get stored in the computer pocket of my Tortuga Air pack. Have you tried Goretex?
Connie

I’m using it for a spring trip all over Europe, including northern Scotland. It’s a great choice for petite women as the cuffs can be turned up to just the right length. I purchased the indigo color which will go with everything. The color choices for the GOTG trench are great, anyone will find a suitable color. With the non-insulated style size up to allow for layering a vest or jacket underneath.

LOST my outer shell this weekend. Does anyone know if I order the trench only if the removable insulation will fit inside of it?
